What is an ankle sprain and how does it occur?

Ankle sprain is a soft tissue injury, and it is most often a ligament injury (although it can also injure muscles as well as muscle tendons). Ankle distortion occurs, and based on the damage caused to the soft tissues, we divide them into three degrees.

This is an injury that is often taken lightly, often lying at home without special therapies, which in some cases leads to healing. However, in some cases, that is not enough, more adequate and precise therapy is needed for complete healing, and by avoiding the therapy, there are permanent consequences, chronic pain as well as the possibility of recurrence, ie re-injury with milder forces.

Injury mechanism

Ankle distortion mostly occurs in athletes, during sports activities, whether they are recreational or professional. It usually happens when landing on the ground, during a sudden movement with a change of direction, or a situation in which another participant in the sport steps on the foot and disrupts the desired coordination with which the movement should be performed, and an injury occurs.

Ankle sprain-symptoms, therapy to cure There are two situations:

-In the first there is a distortion of the ankle where the foot goes inwards, and it happens more often than in the second case, in the ratio 8: 2

-In the other, the foot goes out, but as we said, it rarely happens

& nbsp;

Distribution of ankle distortion (in relation to the degree of ligament damage)

It is characterized by a milder form of sprain, where there is only a slight stretching of the ligaments and the joint capsule. The joint is painful, the swelling appears a few days after the injury, but it is stable .

It is characterized by a partial rupture of the ligaments of the ankle or joint capsule. The joint is very painful, swollen, a hematoma may appear after 3 days, the support on the leg is difficult, and there is a slight instability of the joint.

It is characterized by complete rupture of the ligaments and severe damage to the joint capsule. The injury is accompanied by an outflow of blood from the injured blood vessels, which causes a visible hematoma and swelling of the joint with severe pain. The joint is unstable and movement is disabled. Injury is often accompanied by avulsion of a bone fragment at the ligament attachment.

WHAT IS OUR APPROACH TO TREATMENT?

Before proceeding with any treatment process, it is important to distinguish what type of injury it is. These injuries are often taken lightly, even those with greater tissue damage. The essence is to understand how much it takes for the body to fully recover and give it that time, as well as to provide it with the best possible care after the injury, because this mistake most often happens, that is. premature return to work, sports or recreational activities without the injury being repaired in the right way.

The healing process itself and the approach to treatment depends on the severity of the injury. First comes the diagnosis of the type of injury in question, and definitely the best type of diagnosis is ultrasound diagnostics. It will tell you exactly which ligament is injured, whether the ligament is injured at all, and to what extent it is a serious injury. This best determines the course of treatment, the choice of therapy and gives the best results in healing. We advise you to contact an orthopedist after each injury, who based on simple clinical tests can guess the severity of the injury and prescribe therapy, or if the injury is found to be milder, he will advise you and give you instructions on how to proceed.
IN OUR OFFICE, WE COOPERATE WITH A DOCTOR SPECIALIST IN RADIOLOGY, WHICH SUCCESSFULLY AND PRECISELY CONDUCTS ULTRASOUND DIAGNOSTICS, IN THIS CASE, THE DIAGNOSIS OF ANIMAL INJURIES.

What you can’t go wrong with and what to do as soon as possible after an injury is to apply ice or cold compresses to the injured joint. This helps a lot in combating swelling, which can later be severe or very strenuous. Do not apply ice directly to the skin (you can cause frostbite), but wrap it in a cloth, or you can improvise and use things from the freezer (eg peas in a bag).

If it is a first degree injury (slightly swollen and slightly painful joint, stable , possible mobility), feel free to help yourself by putting ice on the injury site, it lasts for about 15-20 minutes every two hours on the first day, and then the frequency of application is diluted. Bandage the wrist with an elastic bandage and keep the leg raised in relation to the body during rest. After a few days of the injury, you should start with active exercises, with movements that do not cause pain. Otherwise, the ligaments may loosen, which will later lead to much more frequent injuries at lower forces. The condition should improve within a week and you can return to daily activities. If the pain persists, the swelling intensifies, the pain intensifies, be sure to call a doctor.

If the doctor suspects a serious injury, a second or third degree injury, an ultrasound diagnosis is performed, for more serious injuries, the leg is placed in a cast or orthosis (orthoses are recommended because they can be removed. with the aim of performing physical therapy) and an X-ray of the ankle is recommended. The force that is strong enough to cause the ligaments to rupture is very often accompanied by avulsion fractures of the bones, sometimes by fractures of the maleolus or some of the tarsus bones.

WE HAVE HIGH QUALITY ORTHOTIC ACCESSORIES FROM MORSA, WHICH PROVIDE THE NECESSARY FOOT SUPPORT, EASY TO APPLY AND REMOVE.

This is followed by physical therapy. The goal of physical therapy is to prevent further weakening of ligaments, adhesions, muscle atrophy, but also to act to improve circulation to reduce swelling, increase tissue regeneration, strengthen muscles with adequate exercise.

From physical therapy we recommend and do:

-Electrotherapy (in addition to standard electrotherapy, we single out INDIBA ACTIVE CELL therapy)

-Magnetotherapy (Here we highlight SALUS TALENT, an innovative and modern form of magnetotherapy)

-Ultrasound therapy

-Kinezitaping

-Kinesitherapy

THE RIGHT THERAPY OF CHOICE RECOMMENDED BY US IS INDIBA ACTIVE CELL THERAPY. THIS IS T.E.C.A.R. THERAPY, WHICH WORKS ON THE PRINCIPLE OF RADIO WAVES, HAS A STRONG ANTIEDEMATOSIC EFFECT, ACTIVATES NATURAL TISSUE RECONSTRUCTION MECHANISMS AT THE CELL LEVEL AND ACCELERATES REGENERATION (ACCELERATES METABOLISM TO 30 METABOLISM). GIVES AMAZING RESULTS AFTER 3-5 APPLICATIONS AND VISIBLY CAUSES IMPROVEMENT.

We can notice a visible difference after only 4 treatments, hematoma, swelling and pain receded by 80% (second degree distortion).

We also conduct a complete kinesitherapy program that adapts to the condition of the joint, the course of treatment and the needs of the tissues

We must note that the risk of injury to the ankle ligaments increases due to the presence of foot deformities. Persons whose feet go into supination or pronation, due to that irregular trampling, cause stretching of the ligaments on one side of the foot, ie shortening of the ligaments on the opposite side. The moment the leg is bent and the foot goes to the opposite side from the shortened ligaments, there is a 90% chance that the ligaments will rupture.
To solve this problem, our office offers orthopedic insoles, which we manufacture ourselves. We have an educated physiotherapist, who makes pads within an hour, on the spot. The method of making such inserts is according to the program of the French company CAPRON, and we have been educated by their specialists for something like this. The insoles are individually adjusted and are made on the basis of a corrected (correct) footprint, which is the main difference in relation to the standard procedure of making insoles where the imprint is given in foam. Here, the print is given on specialized airbags filled with fine sand, and the print is corrected on the spot. A great advantage is the unlimited repetition of the procedure of giving the impression in case of an error or our dissatisfaction with the result.

LET YOUR CHOICE FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEM BE WITH US! ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS AND EFFECTIVE THERAPY ARE THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVING THE PROBLEM, THE WAY WE ARE GUIDED TO. WE USE MODERN METHODS OF PHYSICAL THERAPY, TECHNIQUES LIKE MANIPULATION AND MOBILIZATION OF JOINTS, ORPOPEDIC AIDS, MODERN APPARATUS LIKE SALUS-TALENT , INDIBA-ACTIVE CELLO AND KOOVEI FOUNDATION THE RIGHT KINESITHERAPY PROGRAM ADAPTED TO YOU.

SALUS-TALENT https://www.fizioaktiv.co.rs/salus-talent-pro/
Electromagnet of high magnetic induction which has an excellent analgesic effect on the joints, dispersion effect on the swelling, so it proved to be extremely effective in spinal pain problems such as spondylosis, dysarthrosis, lumbago, lumbosacralgia,… This magnet is the first electromagnet to be dosed individually according to the patient’s feeling, so that unlike standard magnets, the patient can feel from mild vibrations to very strong muscle contractions with therapy on this magnet. The analgesic effect, ie the effect of reducing pain, is felt very quickly, sometimes even after the first treatment.

INDIBA-ACTIVE CELL https://www.fizioaktiv.co.rs/indiba-proionik-sistem/
This is an extremely pleasant therapy for the patient. It is done in the form of a massage while the free electrode is in the therapist’s hand. It has the best effect on soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, ligaments,… It has shown itself perfectly in reducing muscle spasm, ie. muscle relaxation, elimination of swelling, and has the fastest analgesic effect so that the pain stops during the first treatment. In lumbar syndrome, sciatica, we most often use it as an introductory procedure.
